Then they expelled those breaths into breathalyzers as part of an alcohol-free initiative sponsored by the school's Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), and the prom committee.
According to Chemical Health Coordinator Ann Lindberg, about 500 students attended the prom, held in Edinborough Park in Edina, and 320 took the test. "No one blew anything but zeros, thankfully," Lindberg said.
If a student tested positive for alcohol consumption, they would be asked to leave the prom. Their parents also would be contacted and the student would receive an underage violation.
Students responded well to the initiative, Lindberg said. "The overall atmosphere (at the prom) was excited and kids were excited to be recognized for doing the right thing," she said.
