MADD, officials work to halt DUIs

"Our young people are starting to drink at an average of 12 years of age," he said. "The beverage of choice: hard liquor." Judge Tracey Carroll and assistant solicitor Yvonne Arthur talked about the tougher DUI laws recently approved by Gov. Mark Sanford. "Basically, if you get caught drinking and driving, you're going to go to jail," said Arthur. Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said in his 10 years in the coroner's office, he has worked nearly 500 fatalities in Aiken County. Those who plan to drink and drive should think about what to say to the victim's families, he told the group.
