Areas needing more attention include religious and business involvement, alcohol-free positive activities, alternative resources for kids, a central clearinghouse for information and data, beginning early reinforced drug education from "authentic" sources for youth, parent involvement and parenting programs, random drug testing in all schools, youth participation in planning, local government support and affordable treatment.
Participants gave credit to a number of ongoing efforts and suggested: expanding drug testing to not only those in extra curricular activities, but also students that drive, with punitive action and counseling for failure; more after-school programs teaching life skills; more positive youth activities; accountability for actions and collaboration with courts to enforce parent and student participation.
