Players tackle city's booze-fuelled violence

EVEN Geelong Football Club captain Tom Harley admits the city's streets can become edgy in a wash of alcohol at night.

He has witnessed the flares of anger and the sparks of drink-fuelled violence and followed the sorry stories of victims of drunken assault.

And now he has joined Cat team-mates James Kelly and David Wojcinski calling for people to stop and think hard about the line where fun on the town turns to injury and potential tragedy.

The players want people to Just Think about the way they drink and the way alcohol can skew the way they act.

"We definitely care about what goes on," Harley said.

"A lot is spoken about AFL players and whether they are role models. We have, believe we are and can have an influence on people's behaviour if we can put a positive spin on it.
