Alcohol-Related Death in Mankato

Mankato police say alcohol played a role in the death of 16-year-old Andrew Anderson, a 10th grader at Mankato West Senior High. His blood alcohol level was 0.35.

Last October, Minnesota State College student Amanda Jax died after celebrating her 21st birthday at a Mankato bar. She had a blood alcohol level of nearly 0.46.

According to police, 16-year-old Andrew, his two older brothers, and others were drinking in a secluded area at Land of Memories Park in Mankato.

Andrew passed out. Preliminary results show the sophomore's blood alcohol level at nearly 4 times the legal limit.

"It�s discouraging to have this occur again. We've been in the spotlight, we've had tragedy after tragedy in this community over the past year to two years,"

Drinking is a popular pastime.
